He then planes his poplar body to thickness. A scrub plane is used for rapid stock removal.

The end of the body is planed flat and square to receive the neck.

The neck is then fitted with the join checked by eye and with feeler gauges.

After the neck is glued, Charlie fits the fingerboard. Small dowels are used to locate it, and to prevent it slipping during gluing.
