The truss rod is glued in to a deep slot in the neck with a fillet of wood covering.

The front, neck and sides are assembled first. The cutaway side is glued to a rebate on the neck block while the non-cutaway side is glued into a slot in the neck with a wedge.

The trial stringing is primarily for finding out how the string tension affects the neck, but is also the first opportunity to find out how the instrument sounds.

For a flat finish on an open-pored wood like walnut, the grain needs filling. The grain filler is rubbed into the wood and the excess scraped off.
